NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Common Health Conditions

Course information:

This level 2 course will not only give you an awareness of the signs, symptoms and treatments available for a variety of common health conditions, but you will also learn how to care for individuals and enable them to manage, monitor and control their condition. The certificate consists of 6 units, 4 assessments,  normally taking up to twelve weeks to complete . You will receive your learning resources/information pack at your induction session, which we will arrange with you at a location and date that is mutually convenient.

 

The learning materials contain the knowledge needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course and activities allow you to practice your skills and test your learning. Assessments are based on a combination of knowledge and skills learned on the programme. You must complete the paper based assessments, within the agreed timescales and submit these for marking by our team of qualified tutors. Your tutor will provide feedback, advice and guidance to ensure you can complete the course. Upon successful completion of both unit assessments you will be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Common Health Conditions

 

There are no fees for this course as the Fire Brigades Union Learning Centre has secured funding with The Skills Funding Agency and our Learning Partners. Please ensure that when you enrol on this course you are committed to completing the programme of study within the allocated timescales. Should you not complete the course in full, you may be required to pay a fee to cover registration, administration fees and learning material costs. Unit 1: Understand how to contribute to monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions
You will discover how to monitor the health of individuals living with an existing condition, study patient observation, record information pertaining to the patient and report this information to the relevant parties. This unit will also develop your knowledge of the responses required should there be changes to an individual’s condition.
This unit contains four sections, including:
• Section 1: Monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions
• Section 2: Carrying out health observations
• Section 3: Recording and reporting health observations
• Section 4: Responding to changes in an individual’s condition.


Unit 2: Understand cardiovascular disease
You will gain an understanding of the cardiovascular system and the different forms of cardiovascular disease, including their signs, symptoms, causes and risk factors. This unit will also highlight the effects that such a condition has on a patient’s daily life, as well as the treatment and management options available.
This unit contains four sections, including:
• Section 1: Key components of the cardiovascular system
• Section 2: Common forms and causes of cardiovascular disease
• Section 3: Social and personal effects of cardiovascular disease
• Section 4: Treatment and management of cardiovascular disease.


Unit 3: Stroke awareness
This unit covers the different types of stroke and their warning signs, symptoms and eventual effect on the individual. You will develop knowledge of the swift response required in the event of an emergency and the wide range of support that is available following a stroke.
This unit contains five sections, including:
• Section 1: What a stroke is
• Section 2: Recognising stroke
• Section 3: Managing risk factors for stroke
• Section 4: The importance of emergency response and treatment for stroke
• Section 5: The management of stroke.


Unit 4: Arthritis awareness
Within this unit, you will develop an understanding of the different types of arthritis and their causes, signs and symptoms. It also touches upon how to best treat the condition in order to enable those affected by it to enjoy their day to day life.
This unit contains three sections, including:
• Section 1: The meaning of arthritis
• Section 2: Treatment and support services
• Section 3: Effects and management of arthritis.


Unit 5: Understand physical disability
This unit will educate you in how to provide support to individuals with physical disabilities, as well as how to help them to effectively manage their disability and their ability to maintain their independence.
This unit contains four sections, including:
• Section 1: Differentiating between the individual and the disability
• Section 2: The concept of physical disability
• Section 3: Living with a physical disability
• Section 4: Independence and inclusion for people with physical disabilities.


Unit 6: Parkinson’s disease awareness
Parkinson’s disease affects 1 in 500 people in the UK. The treatment of the condition is complex and requires great sensitivity and knowledge. Within this unit, you will discover how Parkinson’s develops and its underlying causes. This unit also outlines the treatment options, support services and strategies available for those managing the condition.
This unit contains three sections, including:
• Section 1: Parkinson’s disease
• Section 2: Treatment and support services
• Section 3: Managing Parkinson’s disease
