NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading Knowledge

Course information:

This level 2 course will provide you an insight into the roles and functions of a team leader. By developing the skills you need to deal with key areas revolving around team leading such as; challenges within a team, maintaining a harmonious working environment and supporting effective teamwork. You will develop your understanding of how to be an effective te am leader. This programme will teach you how to; support the development of team members, set objectives, improve communication and team motivation. Also maintain the health, safety and security of yourself and your team as well as other core abilities of a team leader.

At your induction , which we will arrange with you at a mutually convenient date and tim you will receive your learning resource/information pack. The certificate consists of 3 asessments normally taking up to sixteen weeks to complete and there is no need to attend a college to gain the qualification. The learning materials contain the knowledge needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course and activities allow you to practice your skills and test your learning. Assessments are based on a combination of knowledge and skills learned on the programme. You must complete the paper based assessments, within the agreed timescales and submit these for marking by our team of qualified tutors. Your tutor will provide feedback, advice and guidance to ensure you can complete the course. Upon successful completion of both unit assessments you will be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading Knowledge

There are no fees for this course as the Fire Brigades Union Learning Centre has secured funding with The Skills Funding Agency and our Learning Partners. Please ensure that when you enrol on this course you are committed to completing the programme of study within the allocated timescales. Should you not complete the course in full, you may be required to pay a fee to cover registration, administration fees and learning material costs. Funded places are subject to availability and are subject to the terms and conditions of our Further Education partner.

Unit 1: Principles of team leading
This unit provides you with an understanding of various leadership styles. You will also develop knowledge of team dynamics and the techniques essential to effectively manage a team’s workload. This unit also covers the impact of change management and how a motivated team can benefit an organisation.
This unit contains five sections, including:
• Section 1: Understand leadership styles in organisations
• Section 2: Understand team dynamics
• Section 3: Understand techniques used to manage the work of teams
• Section 4: Understand the impact of change management within a team
• Section 5: Understand team motivation.


Unit 2: Understand business
This unit will increase your understanding of organisational structures and the business environment. You will develop your knowledge of the principles of business planning and finance within an organisation, as well as business reporting, and management responsibilities and accountabilities within an organisation.
This unit contains five sections, including:
• Section 1: Understand organisational structures
• Section 2: Understand the business environment
• Section 3: Understand the principles of business planning and finance within an organisation
• Section 4: Understand business reporting within an organisation
• Section 5: Understand the principles of management responsibilities and accountabilities within an organisation.


Unit 3: Understand how to communicate work-related information
This unit provides you with an understanding of the principles and techniques of work-related communication through both the verbal and written form. You will also develop knowledge of different types of meetings, the importance of having a meeting agenda and the range of documents required for different meetings in a business environment.
This unit contains two sections, including:
• Section 1: Understand the principles and techniques of work-related communication
• Section 2: Understand how to prepare for meetings.


Unit 4: Understand how to manage performance and conflict in the workplace
This unit develops your knowledge of how to use benchmarks and quality management techniques to manage team performance. You will discover how to manage underperformance within a team and conflict in the workplace.
This unit contains three sections, including:
• Section 1: Understand the management of team performance
• Section 2: Understand the management of underperformance in the workplace
• Section 3: Understand the principles of conflict management.


Unit 5: Principles of equality and diversity in the workplace
This unit will develop your understanding of standards and expectations for equality and diversity in the workplace, including the potential consequences of failing to comply with relevant legislation.
This unit contains two sections, including:
• Section 1: Understand the implications of equality legislation
• Section 2: Understand organisational standards and expectations for equality and diversity and context in the workplace.


Unit 6: Understand how to develop working relationships with colleagues
This unit provides you with an understanding of the principles of effective teamwork and how to buddy a colleague. It covers the benefits of effective team working, how to give feedback constructively, techniques that may be used to resolve team conflicts and techniques for establishing rapport with a buddy.
This unit contains two sections, including:
• Section 1: Understand the principles of effective team working
• Section 2: Understand how to buddy a colleague.


Unit 7: Understand health and safety procedures in the workplace
This unit will provide you with an understanding of the main health and safety responsibilities and laws affecting the workplace. You will look at employers’ and employees’ responsibilities in relation to health and safety, as well as the support that is available for employees.
This unit contains the following section:
• Section 1: Know health and safety procedures in the workplace.


Unit 8: Understand how to develop and deliver a presentation
This unit will develop your knowledge of the principles underpinning the development and delivery of presentations. You will discover the advantages and limitations of various forms of communication media, the factors to take into account when developing contingency plans for delivering presentations and the different ways to evaluate presentations.
This unit contains two sections, including:
• Section 1: Understand how to develop a presentation
• Section 2: Understand the principles underpinning the delivery of presentations
