You will look at the impact and possible justification for these behaviours, considering what the root cause could be. Unit 1: Understand behaviour that challenges
In this unit, you will gain an understanding of behaviours that may be perceived as challenging. You will explore the possible reasons why people display behaviour that challenges and the impacts that such behaviour has on the individual and others in both the short and long-term.
This unit contains three sections, including:
• Section 1: Behaviour that challenges
• Section 2: The reasons why people present with behaviour that is perceived as challenging
• Section 3: The impact of behaviour that challenges.


Unit 2: Understand how to support positive behaviour
You will learn how to identify changes in individuals that may indicate an episode of behaviour that challenges, as well as exploring strategies that could be used to support positive behaviour. This unit also covers the legislation that is in place to protect individuals who exhibit behaviour that challenges.
This unit contains three sections, including:
• Section 1: How to identify when an individual’s behaviour may escalate
• Section 2: Strategies to support positive behaviour
• Section 3: How the rights of individuals are protected.


Unit 3: Understand the importance of effective communication and the management of behaviour that challenges
In this unit, you will develop an understanding of the communication techniques that can be used to manage behaviour. You will also look at the importance of positive reinforcement and the methods that are used to defuse behaviour that challenges, as well as the referral services which provide support to individuals.
This unit contains three sections, including:
• Section 1: Communication in managing behaviour
• Section 2: How to manage behaviour that challenges
• Section 3: The role of others in supporting individuals who exhibit behaviour that is perceived as challenging.


Unit 4: Understand the role of reflection and support for those involved in incidents of behaviour that challenges
You will explore the benefits that reflection can have after incidents of behaviour that challenges, along with the support available to help you maintain your own well-being.
This unit contains two sections, including:
• Section 1: The benefits of reflection following episodes of behaviour that challenges
• Section 2: The support available to maintain own well-being
