Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Bullying in Children and Young People

Course information:

This qualification will develop your understanding of bullying, including how to recognise that bullying is taking place and how to take action to stop it. This qualification covers the definitions of bullying and cyber bullying, legislation that relates to bullying, the effects of bullying on children and young people and how to act when bullying is identified.

Please note: The course focuses entirely on children and young people and is not relevant to anyone interested in an awareness of bullying in adults.

 

Please see below a breakdown of the units and sections within this course.

Unit 1: Principles of bullying
In this unit, learners will gain an understanding of what is meant by bullying and will look at the key features of the different types of bullying that can take place, including physical, emotional, sexual, emotional, discriminatory, personal and relational. Learners will look at the short-term and long-term effects bullying can have on children and will gain understanding of the different types of discrimination.
This unit contains six sections:
• Section 1: What is meant by bullying
• Section 2: Key features of what behaviour is considered bullying
• Section 3: What is meant by cyber bullying
• Section 4: Bullying in context
• Section 5: The short and long-term effects of bullying
• Section 6: Discrimination.


Unit 2: Recognising bullying in children and young people
In this unit, learners will look at why certain children and young people might be at risk of bullying, as well as the physical signs that can indicate a child is being bullied. The reasons why children and young people might bully are covered in this unit and learners will also gain an understanding of the signs a child might display if they are being peer pressured into bullying someone else.
This unit contains three sections:
• Section 1: Individuals who may be at risk of bullying
• Section 2: The signs that a child or young person may be being bullied
• Section 3: Why children or young people bully


Unit 3: Action to be taken when a child or young person is being bullied
In this unit, learners will be asked to identify the steps that should be taken to tackle bullying from a parent’s perspective and the steps to take to tackle bullying from an authoritative person’s perspective. As part of the first section, learners will look at the different ways of supporting a child who is being bullied and the behaviours to avoid when doing so. Learners will learn about the steps to approach a bully and how to prevent bullying, as well as the behaviours to avoid when approaching a bully.
This unit contains two sections:
• Section 1: How to support a child or young person who is being bullied
• Section 2: How to approach the potential bully.


Unit 4: Understand government guidelines for bullying
In this unit, learners will look at associated legislation that can be of use when dealing with bullying – mainly the Equality Act 2010. While learning about the Act, learners will cover stereotyping, prejudice, labelling, discrimination and protected characteristics. Learners will look into how bullying should be reported, as well as anti-bullying policies and procedures and the importance of these policies and procedures.
This unit contains three sections:
• Section 1: The Equality Act 2010
• Section 2: Government and Ofsted guidance on tackling bullying
• Section 3: Policies and procedures for bullying
