Are you looking to complete your diabetes training online?

This qualification will provide you with an understanding of the different types of diabetes and how they can occur as well as increasing your knowledge on diabetes diagnosis and initial care. You will develop an awareness of how Type 2 diabetes can be delayed with lifestyle changes and will learn about on-going care and treatment of diabetes to control blood sugar levels.

Unit 1: Understand diabetes
This unit explores the varying functions of glucose and insulin in the blood, the different forms and causes of diabetes, as well as the risk factors associated with each type.
This unit contains five sections, including:
• Section 1: The function of glucose in the blood
• Section 2: The function of insulin in the blood
• Section 3: Different forms and causes of diabetes
• Section 4: Risk factors for developing Type 2 diabetes
• Section 5: How diabetes is confirmed.


Unit 2: Prevention and early intervention of Type 2 diabetes
Those studying will examine the prevention and early intervention of Type 2 diabetes, paying particular attention to how the condition can be delayed or prevented through healthy lifestyle changes.
This unit contains two sections, including:
• Section 1: The prevention and early intervention of Type 2 diabetes
• Section 2: How diet, exercise and lifestyle affect Type 2 diabetes.


Unit 3: Understand the initial care of diabetes
This unit explores how the condition can be managed and monitored, as well as considering the mental and physical impact diabetes diagnosis can have on an individual.
This unit contains three sections, including:
• Section 1: The social impact of diabetes
• Section 2: Working with individuals to manage diabetes
• Section 3: Monitoring diabetes.


Unit 4: Understand the treatment and management of diabetes
Learners will develop an understanding of the ongoing care and treatment recommended to control blood glucose levels and identify how best to prevent and detect complications in people with diabetes.
This unit contains five sections, including:
• Section 1: How diabetes is treated
• Section 2: The treatment for hypoglycaemia
• Section 3: The treatment for hyperglycaemia
• Section 4: Complications resulting from diabetes
• Section 5: Preventing or detecting complications
