Project Support Organiser Completes Autism Awareness Course

Many congratulations to one of our Regional Project Support Organisers, Ian Dick (R3 & 4), for recently completing our Level 2 Autism Awareness Course.

Ian has now received his Level 2 Certificates from the Awarding Body, NCFE.

It is a brilliant achievement for Ian as he has been extremely busy in the North East Regions of the FBU during the last 9 months enrolling FBU members and people from other organisations onto our courses and it has become very noticeable how the volume of new learners has increased recently and this is indicative of Ian's very personable approach and enthusiasm towards learning.

Ian has introduced our courses to organisations outside of the Fire Service and it is this direction that stimulated him to study this particular course. He became involved with parents of children in a local Calmer Therapy Group. Ian was "so impressed with their dedication in the face of stigma and stress throughout their daily lives that I wanted to understand some of the problems associated with autism". He also added that " this has culminated in me developing an number of new friendships from within the group".

Well done Ian, not only have you gained a new and valuable qualification but also new knowledge that can be utilised within your role for the benefit of others.
