My name is Jane Gummery and I have been appointed as the Region 7 Fire Brigades Union Regional Education & Learning Officer.
As part of my role the recruitment of Union Learning Representatives (ULRs) is pivotal in supporting our members educational needs. Working in partnership with FBU Officials and Fire and Rescue Service Managers we organise learning and educational courses across a range of subjects. This is supported by ULRs whose role can include; identifying learning needs, providing information on learning opportunities, working with colleges and higher education providers to improve access to learning for FBU members.
No previous union experience is necessary to become a union learning representative as training to support and promote learning and personal development of colleagues will be given on an accredited 5 day TUC course.
Our Learning Centre Staff and Project Support Organisers can also provide Information, Advice & Guidance to help you make the right decision on accessing new learning opportunities. If you are not sure about your first step back into learning or need help making the right decision about your next course or qualification then we can help you; we can also provide information that will help guide you to the right learning provider. Just contact our National Learning Centre Staff or your local Project Support Organiser and we can arrange a face to face meeting or discuss via telephone or even Skype!
If this sounds like something you would like to become involved in and are interested in discussing this further, either on a one-to-one basis or through a visit to your station/department please contact me.
