Learning fund

Hi, I’m Kim Ferguson, I’ve recently been appointed as the FBU Union learning Fund Project Support Organiser for Scotland.

Region 1 has not had the opportunity nor access to Union Lead Learning for several years, however that has now been rectified with a successful bid by the FBU to secure funding from the Scottish Government through STUC.

The Union Learning Role is to promote lifelong learning throughout Scotland, through the partnerships with the Service and Education providers we aim to offer both accredited and non-accredited courses to every SFRS employee, FBU members and non-members and their families.

This newly funded Project aims to re-introduce Union Led Learning to all SFRS employees and their families and friends. These learning courses will enable people to attend courses which will be at suitable, convenient locations and at times to accommodate all shift patterns ensuring equal learning opportunities for everyone.

With the Regional Educational & Learning Organiser (RELO) Ian McGregor we are looking for volunteers to take on the role of ‘Union Learning Reps’ for their workplace to assist in the re-introduction this Union Lead Learning within SFRS. If you think this is something you might be interested in please contact myself or Ian at the contact details below. The role does not involve taking on other FBU roles, only in an Educational manner to collate information from your colleagues about what courses they would be interested in and helping to complete registration forms. ULR’s will be allocated Trade Union Leave to attend events and Development days.

More information will be issued regarding this new project as it becomes available within the Region 1 News and Update items.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us on the details below.

If you would like a Station/Workplace visit please contact PSO Kim Ferguson at the email address below to arrange a suitable time.
