Region 4

Welcome to the FBU Region 4 homepage-News for 2020-21

In all Brigades in Region 4 we are looking actively to bring new ULRs and Learning Champions on board to improve and sustain our position as the only Union with an accredited Learning Centre with support networks throughout the country. In the past Region 4 has proved a hotbed of learning opportunity and we hope to carry on the good work into 2020/21 and are establishing more links in North  and South Yorkshire and Humberside, and consolodating learning opportunities in West Yorkshire, This is despite the government decision to withdraw our funding from 31/03/21

Our Twitter page is up and running so come and visit us and see what we are up to on a daily basis.

If you would like a visit to your Station or workplace to find out more about our Courses contact PSO ian Dick at or 07917031847. At present this is difficult due to Covid restrictions but please contact me via e mail

You can register for our Distance Learning Courses from August   2020  in certain postcode areas of Region 4 which are in the Leeds City College Catchment area and we will ask you to do our skill check between application and your enrolment meeting. The skill check  of Maths and English Learning will be sent before induction and you can complete it  in a few minutes

Our favourites such as Mental Health Awareness and Autism Awareness are available as are our new Level 2 Dyslexia and Specific Learning Difficulties Course, Team Leading Knowledge and Nutrition and Health amongst others .

We will filter the postcodes for you and for those areas not within the Catchment please be assured that you are eligable for Courses on our new initiative  now also opening on the website so express your interest

The first applications will be processed in the following areas- Craven, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds, Wakefield, Harrogate, York, Selby and Barnsley from  August. The remainder of Region 4 can  now also express an interest in a new variety of courses.

Regarding our Personal Training Apprenticeship we rely on funding from the Apprenticeship Levy  held by Brigades/FRS so if you are interested in our state of the Art Apprenticeship you need to lobby your local officials, your Managers and join the hundreds of successsful Learners who have benifited from this  Course. We are looking to provide a fantastic course having learned from feedback on previous cohorts in Brigades all over the Country-it's hard work but well worth the effort.

We also have H.I.P.A. or Heat Illness Prevention Awareness with a Power point presentation already available to Watches , Stations and Brigades. (ask your local officials or Managers or simply contact PSO Ian Dick). We  also be provide an E Learning Platform and a level 2 course is being piloted in FRS . , largely due to the work of the project alongside  Brighton University and our IT friends at Beech Design. We are comiitted to providing the most up to date information and education for our Members, Fire Authorities, our families and friends and will continue to look for innovative educational opportunities for FBU Members.

The Government backs ULRs with statutory rights for time off and through the Union Learning Fund (ULF) gives hard cash for learning initiatives in the workplace although this may be compromised in 2021

Our Learning Centre Staff and Project Support Organisers can also provide Information, Advice & Guidance to help you make the right decision on accessing new learning opportunities such as our new Dyslexia and Specific Learning Disabilities course which mis worrth a look . If you are not sure about your first step back into learning or need help making the right decision about your next course or qualification then we can help you; we can also provide information that will help guide you to the right learning provider.  Just contact our National Learning Centre Staff or your local Project Support Organiser Ian Dick  on 07917 031 847 and we can arrange a face to face meeting. Ian is at present travelling the Region to bring Distance Learning Opportunities to members, their families, to Fire authoriy staff and families and to community groups

In Region Four in 2020 we are actively recruiting Union Learning Reps (ULR's,) and Learning Champions for all workplaces to help with the advertising and distribution of learning opportunities and qualifications
